This morning begin your tour of classical Greece and see history begin to unfold! Today's highlights are Epidaurus, the ancient theater famous for its outstanding acoustics and Mycenae. Drive to Olympia for dinner & overnight.Day 5: Olympia / Delphi (Friday)
Visit Olympia, birthplace of the Olympic Games. Included are the Temples of Zeus and Hera, the Altar of the Olympic flame, the Stadium and the museum. Depart for Delphi for dinner & overnight.Day 6: Delphi / Kalambaka (Saturday)
Delphi was known in ancient times as the navel of the world. Visit the Temple of Apollo, the Athenian Treasury and the museum housing the famous bronze statue, the Charioteer. Drive to Kalambaka, a small town built at the foot of the majestic granite rocks crowned by the Meteora monasteries. Dinner & overnight.Day 7: Kalambaka / Athens (Sunday)
This morning, visit the breathtaking Byzantine monasteries gracefully sitting on top of huge granite rocks. Return to Athens for overnight.Day 8: Athens (Piraeus) / Syros (Monday)
Sail at 12:00 p.m. Arrive Syros at 6:00 p.m. Optional tour to Ermopouli, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visit the many beautiful churches including one that houses artwork of El Greco. Depart at 11:30 p.m.Day 9: Cesme, Turkey (Tuesday)
Arrival in Cesme, Turkey at 7:00 a.m. Travel by bus approximately two hours to the ancient city of Ephesus, passing many typical rural Turkish villages along the way. Ephesus is rivaled only by the Forum and the Acropolis as one of the most complete classical cities in Europe. Stroll between the marble colonnades of Curetes Street to visit Trajan’s Fountain, Hadrian’s Temple, the Scholastica Baths and the astonishing Terrace Houses, where many of the floor mosaics are still intact. Nearby, the spectacular Library of Celsus, which has been almost entirely reconstructed, towers above the famed Marble Road. The Great Theater of Ephesus, where St. Paul once preached, was carved into the side of Mt. Pion in the 4th century BC. It held up to 24,000 spectators and is still renowned for its outstanding acoustics. It is believed the Virgin Mary lived and died here, and that Paul wrote his Letter to the Ephesians here. There will be some free time to shop before returning to the ship. Depart at 10:00 p.m.Day 10: Kos, Greece (Wednesday)
Arrive in Kos at 7:00 a.m. Kos is where Hippocrates, the father of medicine, developed many of the healing methods that continue in use today. Sail at 6:00 p.m.Day 11: Ios/Santorini, Greece (Thursday)
Arrive in Ios at 7:00 a.m. Optional tour to Skarkos, a pre-historic settlement, Chora, a picturesque village with narrow winding streets lined with shops and cafes and Mangonari Beach, one of the prettiest beaches in the Cyclades. Sail at 2:30 p.m. for Santorini with arrival at 4:30 p.m. Santorini is the diamond of all the islands. You will marvel at the breath-taking views and the clean, pure, Cycladic air as you head towards the north of the island. You will pass through Fira, the small traditional villages of Firostefani and Imerovigli with delicate architecture and beauties, to eventually arrive at the settlement of Oia. During the entire route, to the west you will have before your eyes the lace-like caldera, the little islands of Thirasia, Palea and Nea Kameni and an unsurpassable panoramic view. In Oia you will have plenty of time to stroll through the marble-paved alleys, to gaze at the adorable shops, to take pictures, to become acquainted with the characteristic buildings, carved into the rocks and the unusual captains’ manors, and the settlement Ammoudi at the foot of the caldera. The sunset will leave a lasting memory. Sail at 9:00 p.m. OPTION: Disembarkation in Santorini is permitted. Spend two or three glorious days in Santorini after the cruise before flying home.Day 12: Lavrion / Home (Friday)
Arrive at 6:30 a.m. Disembark. Upon disembarkation, private transfer to the Athens airport for your flight home.Day Pricing:
